Our client came to us with a full outline, all of which was already placed into slides in PowerPoint. What they lacked was any design or art direction. Each slide had exactly the content they wanted, but no styling – just simple bare-bones text and some suggestions for imagery and graphics. Our challenge was to take these very basic slides and give them top-notch, modern art direction so our client could deliver their report looking like pro.
The first thing we did (the first thing we always do) was ask about the people in our client’s audience. We wanted to make sure the art direction would connect with the key decision makers, direct contacts and any important groups or individuals that our client was trying to impress or influence. We also wanted to make sure the graphics helped convey the message and didn’t get in the way of the information being delivered to this audience. Since it was being presented live, our aim was minimalism with flair. In order to achieve this we decided on a simple, yet bold aesthetic with bright colors, a warm/neutral background, and clean typography with a sans-serif font.
Once the art direction was approved, we produced the entire deck including a theme, master layouts and template slides, all based on this simple, yet powerful set of design rules. Our client was thrilled and went to deliver her presentation with full confidence.
